Sprachdiplom Deutsch

ÖSD stands mainly for 'the Austrian German Language Diploma' - „Österreichisches Sprachdiplom Deutsch“. There is another definition where 'Ö' stands for 'Austria'/'Österreich', 'S' stands for 'Switzerland'/'Schweiz', and 'D' - for 'Germany'/'Deutschland'. ÖSD is a worldwide recognizable exam system for German as a foreign or second language. ÖSD exams comply with international standards in language teaching/learning, and closely correspond with 'CEFR' and 'profile Deutsch'.

The Österreichisches Sprachdiplom Deutsch certificates serve as a widely recognized prove of German language command. One of the main ideas of the ÖSD exam is to reveal the variety of German language in the real world by considering language variants of the German-speaking countries as equivalent.

ÖSD exams

ÖSD exam is internationally recognised language examination including levels A1-C2. Österreichisches Sprachdiplom Deutsch levels reflect the exact structure of CEFR-levels in foreign language teaching. Starting from 2019, ÖSD tests have a modular structure (2 to 4 modules depending upon the exam type), where each module can be completed independently at different time upon the readiness of a student.

ÖSD exam is based upon the communicative approach in modern language teaching and consists of a variaty of graded tasks: authentic articles and text passages, audio texts and video episodes etc.)

ÖSD exams structure

2-modular exams consist of a 'Written module' (testing reading and listening comprehension, written production) and 'Oral module' (testing oral communication and production).

4-modular exams (B1 and C2 levels) consist of 4 parts: reading and listening comprehension, written and spoken production.

All the ÖSD exams are based upon the core of communicative approach which means all the tasks of the test check your ability to communicate and interact orally in real everyday situations, at work, study etc. in one of the German-speaking countries: Austria, Switzerland or Germany. There are altogether 16 ÖSD exams on 6 CEFR language levels. Around 100.000 German language learners sit ÖSD exam every year in around 400 licensed centres across the world.
